Yes, I know the spelling is megabyte. But today, they feel more
like megabites to me.
I've been having problems with my computer. The hardware and software
are six years old, and that's old for the Information Age in which we
live.
I'm still using Netscape Communicator 4.5. So, yesterday I decided to
update with Netscape Browser v8.0.3.3. It took about an
hour-and-a-half to download.
When I was done, the first task it called for was a "System Check." I
activated it and in seconds a yellow triangle with big letters came up
on the screen: "ALERT - System Check Failed. Your computer needs 64
MB [megabytes] of RAM to handle Netscape Browser v8.0.3.3."
That did it! I need a new computer! I promptly ordered one that day.
This morning, I got to thinking about it. I've got another computer
problem. It's the computer between my ears. I'm pushing seventy-five,
and I've been using it in God's work for fifty-five years. I've been
having problems with it. Yup, memory problems. A problem with
megabytes.
Unless you die young and in good health, you're going to have this
problem too. You can't go out and buy a new Dell. You're stuck with
old, out of date hardware and software. So what do you do?
I asked the Lord about it this morning. As usual, He answered with
Scripture--the Apostle Paul's words: "For to me to live is Christ and
to die is gain" (Phil. 1:21).
It was almost as though He were saying, I understand the problem
working with an old computer, but I'm going to ask you to live with it
for now. Just keep your eyes on Jesus. In My time I'll give you an
ALERT. When the system fails, you will get an update with megabytes
coming out your ears--something even Dell would die for.
