2010 Bartimaeus Bible Conference
Wednesday p.m. - September 15, 2010
Message #5

GOD'S GLORY IN THE JESUS CHRIST MIRRORED BY CHRISTIANS

Proposition: To demonstrate how the Christian is able to share in the quality of glory through Jesus Christ. We have the privilege of mirroring out His glory by the Spirit.

  Introduction

     A. The Problem with the Truth that God Will Not Give His Glory to Another
     B. The Position of God the Son and the Matter of Divine Glory
        1. He Shared in the Glory with the Other Persons of the Godhead
           in Eternity
           a. Essential
           b. Personal
        2. He Acquired a Glory in Relation to His Human Nature in the
           Incarnation
           a. Still Had Full Glory in His Divine Nature
           b. Acquired a Kind of Glory in His Human Nature
     C. The Program for Glory through Jesus Christ
     D. The Provisions of Grace that Give Christians an Opportunity to Share
        in the Glory of Christ
        1. Jesus Christ in the Christian
        2. The Christian in Jesus Christ

TRANS: An interesting statement seems to contradict the possibility of God getting glory through Christians. Two verses clearly say that God does not give His glory to anyone else.

  I. ONLY GOD POSSESSES HIS GLORY AND GIVES IT TO NO ONE ELSE

     A. The Perfect Character of God Is Given Glory - Psa. 115:1

KJV Psalm 115:1 Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give
glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake.

     B. The Certainty that Jehovah Will Not Give His Glory to Another
        - Isa. 42:8, 9

KJV Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give
to another, neither my praise to graven images. 9 Behold, the former things
are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I
tell you of them.

        1. I Am Jehovah
        2. That Is My Name
        3. I Will Not Give My Glory to Another
        4. Nor My Praise to Idols
        5. His Absolute Control of Time
     C. The Consistency of Jehovah's Character - Isa 48:9-12 (11)

KJV Isaiah 48:9 For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my
praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off. 10 Behold, I have
refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of
affliction. 11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for
how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first,
I also am the last.

II. GLORY WAS GIVEN TO JESUS CHRIST IN HIS INCARNATION BY THE FATHER

     A. God the Son Shared the Eternal Glory with the Father - Jn. 17:5

KJV John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with
the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

     B. The Father Is Glorified in the Son of Man - Jn. 13:31, 32; 14:13

KJV John 13:31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son
of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. 32 If God be glorified in
him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify
him.

KJV John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that
the Father may be glorified in the Son.

     C. God the Father Gave Jesus Christ a Glory - Jn. 17:22, 24

KJV John 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that
they may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they
may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent
me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 24 Father, I will that they
also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold
my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the
foundation of the world.

     D. Jesus Christ Has Given Christians Acquired Glory with Oneness
        - Jn. 17:22, 23

III. THE GRACIOUS PROVISION RELATED TO THE GLORY

     A. Fallen Man Has Sinned and Fallen Short of the Glory of God - Rom. 3:23

KJV Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

     B. Christ Was Raised from the Dead by the Glory of the Father - Rom. 6:4

KJV Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that
like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even
so we also should walk in newness of life.

        1. The Agency of Glory
        2. The Anticipation of a Christian Walking in Newness of Life
     C. Christian Behavior Can Be to the Glory of God - 1 Cor. 10:31
     D. The Promises of God through Him Bring Glory to God through Christians
        - 2 Cor. 1:20

KJV 2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in
him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

IV. OUR SHARING IN GLORY IS BASED UPON JESUS CHRIST'S GLORY

     A. Since Christ Is in You - Rom. 8:10

KJV Romans 8:10  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin;
but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

     B. We Share and Will Share Together in His Glory - Rom. 8:17

KJV Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs
with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified
together.

        1. Together Heirs
        2. Suffer Together
        3. May Be Glorified Together

  V. THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING INSTRUMENTS OF GOD'S GLORY

     A. The Presentation of Letters with Something Written on the Inside
        - 2 Cor. 3:2, 3

KJV 2 Corinthians 3:2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and
read of all men: 3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle
of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the
living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

     B. The Person Who Has Shown Us the Glory of the Lord - 2 Cor. 4:6

KJV 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of
darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of
the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

     C. The Presence of a Treasure in Clay Pots - 2 Cor. 4:7

KJV 2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that
the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

     D. The Prospect of the Christian Mirroring the Glory of the Glory
        - 2 Cor. 3:18

KJV 2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass
the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory,
even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

"17 But the Lord is the Spirit; but where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is
liberty. 18 But all of us with face [or person cf. 2:10; 4:6] having been
unveiled, continually reflecting as a mirror the glory of the Lord are being
made to give an outward expression of our inward nature with reference to
the same image [of Christ] from glory into glory even as from the Spirit of
the Lord (2 Cor. 3:17, 18 - my translation, DKS)."

     E. The Potential to Have That Which Is on the Inside Shown on the Outside
        - 2 Cor. 4:6

KJV 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of
darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of
the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

     F. The Provisions of Grace and the Glorification of the Lord Jesus
        Christ in the Christian - 2 Thess. 1:11, 12

KJV 2 Thessalonians 1:11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God
would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of
his goodness, and the work of faith with power: 12 That the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace
of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

        1. Glorified in You
        2. Glorified in Him

TRANS: God glorified Himself through the believer sharing it with the believer. The only way that God manifests His glory in human beings is by manifesting or reflecting Himself through the Christian.
